Quick Apply 8 days ago Full Job Description INTRODUCTION The purpose of this job description is to specify the duties of a Production Operator at CANASTOTA N/C CORPORATION REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Production Operator reports to the Production Supervisor.
The following positions report directly to the Production Operator:
None at this time.
REQUIREMENTS Must speak and understand English well enough to take, and understand, instructions from the Set Up Operator or Supervisor.
Must understand enough basic math to verify job requirements and specifications.
Must be able to read and write English well enough to understand process instructions, work orders, and other paperwork.
Prefer an HS Graduate with some practical knowledge and hands-on experience with metal machining, and N/C machine tooling.
Practical experience in any industrial field is an acceptable substitute, provided the candidate has the ability and desire to undergo training.
Must be physically capable of loading and unloading parts on machines, and moving parts bins.
Ability, and license, to operate a forklift would be a distinct advantage.
Must be able to present at least three job references.
Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
Must have excellent eyesight and depth perception with the ability to read, and understand blueprints, sharpen tools, and perform minor maintenance work.
Must have basic mechanical ability to troubleshoot production problems.
Must be able to use a micrometer, gauging tools, and the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), or have the ability to be trained in their use.
WORKING CONDITIONS The majority of the Production Operator's time will be spent in the production area.
Workdays will be from 8-10 hours per day with occasional overtime and Saturdays as required.
TASKS AND DUTIES Assists the Production Supervisor with his/her duties, as required.
Ensures that assigned scheduled work is completed on time, and meets all quality standards.
Informs the Production Supervisor of problems, especially those that affect safety, or could cause delay in meeting customer deadlines.
Keeps scrap and rework to a minimum by closely following all machining and inspection procedures.
Identifies tools that are dull or broken, or need to be changed, and takes appropriate action.
Performs inspection of first piece when taking over station to verify conformance to specification.
Performs general maintenance on machines during shift, including, but not limited to, checking/changing coolant and oil, changing filters, cleaning coolant tanks, etc.
Informs the Production Supervisor of the need for production supplies and tooling, in time to allow for ordering and receiving.
Keeps work area, and machine, in clean and safe condition by doing routine housekeeping during, and at the end, of each shift.
Obeys all safety rules, and company rules and policies.
Maintains tardiness or absenteeism to 2% or less.
MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE The Production Operator's work will be deemed to be acceptable when:
He/she maintains a good working relationship with co-workers.
The Production Supervisor is satisfied with the quality and quantity of work performed.
Rework and scrap, caused by failing to follow process specifications, are held to a minimum.
Operator's area is neat and clean at the end of each shift.
Paperwork is up to date and accurate.
The Production Supervisor has been kept informed of any potential problems with safety, customers, jobs, or delivery deadlines.
The operator has shown a willingness and ability to learn new processes and job skills.
Tardiness and absenteeism is less than 2%.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
